Job summary

Illinois Central College in East Peoria, IL, seeks a Security Officer to protect persons and property and maintain a safe campus environment on the East Peoria campus, scheduled for the 3rd shift. The position is full-time within Campus Police and involves patrolling, incident reporting, and coordinating with local emergency services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license and insurability for college vehicles.
• Experience in security, law enforcement, military, customer service, education, or related field.
• Successful completion of ICC Police Department Field Training Program.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain professional relationships.

Responsibilities

• Patrol, inspect, and secure campus buildings and grounds.
• Investigate incidents and report safety concerns.
• Respond to emergencies and take action to protect life and property.
• Ensure safety and security of campus and persons, per Illinois statutes.
• Inspect and assist testing of fire control and alarm systems.
• Maintain relationships with local police, fire and EMS.
• Enforce college behavioral and parking regulations.
• Direct and control traffic and provide crowd control during events.
• Investigate and report complaints and traffic crashes.
• Work shifts to provide daily 24-hour service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Summary:

The Campus Security Officer is primarily responsible for protecting persons and property to provide a safe and secure campus environment. This position will be located on the East Peoria campus and will be scheduled for 3rd shift.

Compensation for the Security Officer is $19.94-22.43/hour.

Essential Functions:

• Patrol, inspect, and secure campus buildings and grounds.

• Investigate and report incidents and unusual conditions relating to the safety of the campus community.

• Respond immediately to emergency situations and take appropriate action to protect life and property.

• Perform actions necessary to ensure the safety and security of the campus and persons on the campus, in compliance with Illinois Compiled Statutes 720 ILCS 5/7-1 and 720 ILCS 5/7-3.

• Inspect and assist in the testing of fire control and alarm systems.

• Maintain effective working relationships with local police, fire and emergency services.

• Enforce college behavioral and parking regulations.

• Direct and control traffic and provide crowd control and security during special events and as required.

• Investigate and report complaints and traffic crashes.

• Work shifts as assigned to provide daily 24-hour service.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Must be at least 21 years of age.

• Valid driver's license and satisfy requirements for insurability in operating college vehicles.

• Experience working in a security, law enforcement, military, customer service, education, or related field.

• Meets minimum requirements for hire as established under the Illinois Public Community College Act, (110 ILCS 805/3-42.1).

• Successful completion of Illinois Central College Police Department Field Training Program.

• Maintain composure under stressful and adverse conditions.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

• College degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or related field.

• Advanced security or law enforcement training.
