Job summary

NYCHA is seeking an Associate Investigator to supervise, plan and coordinate security initiatives across New York City housing developments. The role requires initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to conduct inspections and audits.

Responsibilities include handling access requests with Property Management, leading security meetings, maintaining records and metrics, and training staff, with consideration for the 55-a Program eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Four-year high school diploma or equivalent and five years of full-time investigator experience.
  • Associate degree with four years of full-time investigator experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree with two years of full-time investigator experience.
  • Education/experience equivalent to one of the above.

Job description

Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, performs very responsible work in the supervision, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and/or evaluation of Security initiatives. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, monitor and/or evaluate security initiatives at each NYCHA development.
  • Assist in the resolution of layered access requests/issues, alongside Property Management.
  • Conduct and attend Borough wide and/or local security meetings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate staff meetings, training sessions and community meetings as required, (i.e., PSA and community boards).
  • Maintain security records, written reports, daily and monthly metrics.
  • Conduct regular audits of files to ensure compliance with department/agency guidelines and protocols.
  • Conduct unannounced inspections of buildings where there are Security/Firewatch guards.
  • Coordinate trainings for new security staff.
Special Conditions

Individual selected for this position will be actively engaged in physical building inspections, as well as performing tasks that require a lot of walking, climbing stairs and standing for long periods of time.

NOTE: The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) administered a civil service exam for the Associate Investigator title on 09/25/25. Therefore, applicants (candidates) that did not take and pass the exam will potentially not be considered; likewise, applicants not reachable on the established civil service list will potentially be in jeopardy of being replaced with an eligible civil service candidate.

ASSOCIATE INVESTIGATOR (NOT PR - 31121

Minimum Qualifications
  1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time experience as an investigator evaluating credit worthiness, searching for assets, verifying information concerning education, experience, and other personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment, or performing investigations involving the research, compilation and/or location of evidence or information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal, corrupt, unlawful or unethical nature; or
  2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
  3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience as described in "1" above; or
  4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
