Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a Lieutenant (OLU) to oversee daily operations at the State Farm Correctional Center, supervising Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and inmates to ensure safety and order. The role leads staff, sets schedules, and supports performance management within a state agency environment.

The position requires a high school diploma, DCJS certification, and substantial corrections or law enforcement experience, plus strong communication and administration skills

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• DCJS Certification.
• Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• Experience supervising corrections staff.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and duty roster management.
• Experience in reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders.
• Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration.
• Ability to receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge in firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and Inmates.
• Supervise and monitor staff on assigned shift to ensure a safe, secure, and productive environment.
• Lead and counsel staff; coordinate work schedules and duty rosters.
• Contribute to administration of performance management system for staff.
• Conduct ongoing inspections to maintain security, sanitation, and good order of the institution.
• Interact with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.
