Job summary

Katy ISD is seeking a Security Guard - Level II Certification to protect students, staff and district property on campus.

Under supervision, you will respond to incidents, coordinate with district police, and maintain records. Requires Texas Level II security commission, valid Texas Driver License, and ability to interact professionally with adolescents and staff.

Qualifications

• College hours, high school diploma or GED preferred.
• Texas Driver License required and reliable transportation.
• Level II security commission from the Texas Commission on Private Security.
• Ability to record information and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work with students and communicate clearly.
• Working knowledge of security techniques and electronic security systems.
• Sensitivity and maturity to work effectively with adolescents.
• Preferred previous experience as a security guard.

Responsibilities

• Assist in protection of students, staff, and district property.
• Serve as a security resource to students and campus personnel.
• Establish and maintain relationships with faculty and law enforcement.
• Identify unauthorized persons on campus and verify authority.
• Report all criminal offenses to the district's police department.
• Prepare and file all appropriate reports.
• Appear in court and/or hearings as a witness or complainant when appropriate.
• Provide a general and consistent adult presence at events.
• Provide a random security patrol on campus.
• Coordinate security services with Katy ISD police personnel.
• Provide appropriate assistance during disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, etc.
• Inform the Chief of Police of conditions affecting safety via the command chain.

Duty Days: 187 Days
Wage/Hour Status: Non‑Exempt
Pay Grade: A04

Ability to record information and follow verbal and written instruction. Ability to work effectively with students and communicate clearly. Working knowledge of personal and property security techniques and electronic security systems. Sensitivity and maturity to work effectively with adolescents. Preferred previous experience as a security guard.

Primary Purpose

Under direct supervision, provide security and protection for students, campus personnel, patrons, and district property.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist in protection of students, staff, and district property.
2. Serve as a security resource to students and campus personnel.
3. Establish and maintain an ongoing working relationship with faculty and law enforcement personnel serving the school community.
4. Identify unauthorized persons who come within the boundaries of the campus and verify their authority.
5. Report all criminal offenses originating on assigned campuses to the district's police department.
6. Prepare and file all appropriate reports.
7. Appear in court and/or hearings as a witness or complainant when appropriate.
8. Provide a general and consistent adult presence at critical locations during school‑related events.
9. Provide a random security patrol on assigned campus.
10. Coordinate security services with Katy ISD police personnel.
11. Provide appropriate assistance during disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, etc. (where Katy ISD personnel are required).
12. Through the standard chain of command, inform the Chief of Police of all conditions that affect safety and security of students, staff, and district property.

Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent confrontations; work indoors and outdoors in varying climate conditions; and may be exposed to vehicle exhaust.
