Job Summary
Bristol Health is looking for Security Officers to join our Security team. The Security Officer will take a proactive role in addressing situations related to the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors while making appropriate notifications to Security Leadership, Nursing Supervisor, local law enforcement, and Bristol Health Executive Leadership. The officer will adhere to all policies and procedures and ensure safety controls are administered in a calm and professional manner.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Evaluate and assess potential threats; respond to emergencies and events, including assistance with de‑escalation and administration of safety protocols in accordance with policy.
- Document safety and security events in Bristol Health’s Incident Reporting System.
- Monitor campus security cameras, periodically tour buildings, grounds, and parking lots; inspect doors and other hardware to ensure they are secure or not tampered with; report vehicle tampering, safety concerns, or malfunctions to appropriate personnel or local law enforcement.
- Monitor employee compliance with Bristol Health parking policies and conduct procedures associated with non‑compliance.
- Assist with communications and dispatching.
- Evaluate and determine approved visitor access and location; process visitor badges.
- Traffic control on grounds.
- Security vehicle inspection.
- Raise and lower flags.
- Lost and found property processing.
- Locking and unlocking doors.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in the security field or law enforcement field (Healthcare experience preferred).
State/Federal Licensure and Certifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- Current State of Connecticut certification as a Licensed Security Officer or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Successful completion of First Aid, CPR‑AED, and CPI certifications required as a condition of continued employment.
Cognitive Requirements
- Mental flexibility to perform diverse duties.
- Good written and oral communication skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in emergency situations.
- Good organizational skills and basic computer skills.
Mandated Educational Requirements
- General orientation at time of hire.
- Fire / Safety / Infection Control annually.
- Other programs deemed appropriate by management.
Physical Requirements
- Significant walking.
- Manual dexterity and the ability to perform a full range of body movements.
- Vision corrected to meet State of CT driver’s license standards.
- Capable of hearing and verbally communicating.
- Must be willing and able to successfully complete a WorkFit evaluation.
Work Environment
- Normal patient care environment.
- Exposure to varied outdoor elements.
- Occasional exposure to patient elements.
- Stress related to confrontational interactions with patients and visitors.
