Bristol Health is seeking a CNA to join the Behavioral Health team at the Bristol Hospital Main Campus in Bristol, CT. This full-time role (36 hours) involves 3rd shift nursing assistant duties under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, active Connecticut CNA, and CPR/BLS certification, with at least 1 year of experience in long-term care or behavioral health. Excellent teamwork and patient-focused care are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must have a valid and active CNA Certification in the State of Connecticut.
  • Must have a valid CPR w/BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience working in a long term care and/or behavioral health setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients under supervision/direction of the registered nurse.
  • Performs a wide variety of tasks using a patient centered model, including bathing, ambulation, feeding, toileting, vital signs, weights, safety checks, and continuous observation.
  • Exhibits knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and to support patient groups across growth and development.
  • Demonstrates ability to work as part of a team and maintain patient-centered care and documentation.
  • Communicates effectively in a calm, professional manner and supports a positive work environment.

Performs a wide variety of patient care tasks utilizing a Patient Focused Care model. Follows standardized procedures prescribed in a clinical pathway, including activities related to direct care, diagnostic testing, patient transport and documentation, as directed by RN.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct care to patients under supervision/direction of the registered nurse
  • Performs a wide variety of tasks using a patient centered model inclusive but not limited to:
    • Assist with Bathing / Personal Hygiene
    • Assists with ambulation of patient
    • Assists with feeding
    • Assist with toileting
    • Assists with vital signs

Qualifications

Must have High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

Must have a valid and active CNA Certification in the State of Connecticut.

Must have a valid CPR w/BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience working in a long term care and/or behavioral health setting.

Preferred:

  • 1 year experience in acute care inpatient environment as Patient Care Assistant or CNA

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:

None

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:

General orientation at time of hire. Accucheck, CPR, Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Health Care Provider CPR from American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer CPR by American Red Cross or other similar programs deemed appropriate by management. Additional cross-training as appropriate to perform diverse job duties. Successfully complete all training programs as determined by the Hospital. Other unit based competencies/skills as required.

Special Requirements:

Knowledge of basic patient care procedures and medical terminology. Ability to work as part of a team. Data entry and documentation skills. Experience working with a psychiatric population.

Physical Requirements:

Significant walking, bending, stooping, patient lifting and positioning. Must be able to participate in PERT. Manual dexterity for phlebotomy and data entry.

Stressful working conditions in a patient care environment. Exposure to patient fluids and waste. Rapid pace and variable environment.

Cognitive Requirements:

Mental flexibility to perform diverse duties involved in patient care. Good communication skills, written and oral, and ability to follow written and oral instruction.
