Reports to: Director of Safety and Security

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary:

The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, children, visitors, and other members of the community. The position monitors assigned areas, controls facility access, identifies and reports security concerns, and responds to safety and emergency situations in accordance with established procedures and Missouri Childcare Licensing Standards.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Security & Facility Monitoring
• Maintains a visible security presence throughout assigned facilities and designated areas to promote a safe and secure environment.
• Monitors entrances, exits, hallways, common areas, parking areas, playgrounds, and other assigned locations for safety or security concerns.
• Controls and monitors access to facilities by verifying visitors, contractors, vendors, and other individuals in accordance with established procedures.
• Monitors visitor sign-in and sign-out procedures and ensures visitors follow applicable facility policies.
• Conducts routine security checks of buildings, doors, gates, and other access points and reports unusual conditions, hazards, or security concerns.
• Monitors security cameras, alarms, access control systems, and other security equipment as assigned.
• Receives deliveries and assists with or escorts vendors and contractors as needed.
• Safety & Emergency Response
• Responds appropriately to security, safety, and emergency situations and promptly notifies GCECC Administrators, Director of Safety and Security or other designated supervisor, emergency services, or other appropriate personnel when necessary.
• Assists with emergency procedures, including evacuations, lockdowns, severe weather responses, and other emergency protocols in accordance with established procedures.
• Maintains awareness of conditions that may affect the safety of children and families, employees, visitors, or facility operations and takes appropriate action within the scope of the position.
• Provides assistance to staff and other personnel during emergencies or security-related situations as directed.
• Documents and promptly reports security incidents, safety concerns, suspicious activity, property damage, unauthorized access, and other unusual occurrences.
• Provides accurate and timely information to the Director of Safety and Security or other designated supervisor regarding incidents, observations, and security concerns.
• Communicates professionally and respectfully with employees, children and families, families, visitors, vendors, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and other members of the community.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding security incidents, investigations, and information obtained in the course of employment.
• Other Duties

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Adult/Child & Infant CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Ability to successfully complete required background screening and any other pre-employment requirements (i.e. fingerprints, TB test, physical, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous security, public safety, military, law enforcement, or related experience preferred.
• Ability to maintain a professional, respectful, and service-oriented approach when interacting with children and families, employees, families, visitors, vendors, and the public.
• Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during routine and emergency situations.
• Ability to follow established security, safety, and emergency procedures.
• Ability to observe, recognize, and appropriately respond to safety and security concerns.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to accurately document incidents and observations.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn and use security cameras, access control systems, communication equipment, and other security technology.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this position are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The Security Guard must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, climb stairs, and move throughout assigned buildings, grounds, and parking areas. The position requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds or more to open, close, or move doors, gates, carts, and equipment. The Security Guard must be able to move quickly or run when responding to emergencies or security concerns. Work Environment

Work is performed in indoor and outdoor areas, including buildings, grounds, and parking areas, with exposure to varying weather conditions. The Security Guard may encounter stressful, unpredictable, or potentially difficult situations involving children and families, employees, visitors, vendors, or members of the public. The position requires maintaining professionalism and composure while responding to security concerns, emergencies, or individuals who may be upset or uncooperative. Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs.
