Job summary

Bath Iron Works is seeking a Security Communications Specialist to support operations in Bath, ME. The role serves as the primary contact for BIW Security, Fire and EMS, contractors, law enforcement, and Government personnel, handling emergency and non-emergency calls via multiple channels.

The ideal candidate will monitor cameras and access control systems, coordinate incident responses, and maintain thorough documentation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Word, Access, PowerPoint, & Excel software programs required.
  • Ability to successfully complete internal Security Communications Specialist training program.

Responsibilities

  • Operate computerized systems as the primary point of contact for BIW Security, BIW Fire and EMS, Contractors, Law Enforcement and Government Personnel.
  • Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from BIW employees, outside vendors, government and guard force personnel via telephone, alarms and radio systems.
  • Independently coordinate appropriate response to emergency incidents and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Utilize camera systems, access control and alarms systems to monitor facilities, doors, building perimeters and sensitive areas.
  • Radio operations using multi-channel communications with internal and external agencies.
  • Triage and prioritize emergency and non-emergency events in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Communicate effectively and relay information to appropriate personnel.
  • Work various shifts and overtime as needed due to 24/7 staffing requirements.

The starting pay rate for this position is $22.12/hr.

The Security Department has an immediate need for highly motivated individuals to serve as Security Communications Specialists.

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for performing a variety of complex duties that include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the operation of computerized systems and related equipment in the course of serving as the primary point of contact for BIW Security, BIW Fire and EMS, Contractors, Law Enforcement and Government Personnel.
  • Receive and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from BIW employees, outside vendors, government and guard force personnel via telephone, alarms and radio systems.
  • Must independently coordinate appropriate response to emergency incidents and complete appropriate documentation.
  • Utilize camera systems, access control and alarms systems to monitor facilities, doors, building perimeters and sensitive areas.
  • Radio operations utilizing multi-channel communications with all internal and outlying agencies.
  • Ability to triage and prioritize emergency and non-emergency events in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Have the ability to effectively communicate and relay information to appropriate personnel.
  • Must be able to work various shifts and overtime as needed due to 24/7 staffing requirements.

Schedule consists of one 6‑hour shift followed by three 12‑hour shifts, covering evening through early‑morning hours.

Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Word, Access, PowerPoint, & Excel software programs required.
  • Ability to successfully complete internal Security Communications Specialist training program.
Required/Preferred Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General working knowledge of Bath Iron Works properties.
  • Experience with communications center operations.
  • Experience with C-Cure 9000, exacqVision, and Digitalizer alarm reporting system.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Capable of working independently or in a team setting with minimal supervision.
