Job summary

PTFS seeks an Archivist to advise on Federal records disposition, organize permanent collections, and train Archives Technicians at Fort Meade. The role requires applying the Records Disposition Schedule and creating finding aids in the records database.

The ideal candidate has an MLS from an accredited program, experience in archives or records management, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team on site.

Qualifications

• MLS from an accredited institution.
• Experience as an Archivist, Archives Technician, or Records Management Officer.
• 0–2 years performing the duties of the position; Level A, 2–4 years; Level B, 4+ years; Level C.
• Ability to read, analyze, and understand federal records and related RDS requirements.

Responsibilities

• Create and prioritize lists of records eligible for permanent retention.
• Analyze record types, provenance, original order, and subject contents.
• Apply the Records Disposition Schedule to retention/destruction decisions.
• Communicate analysis in writing and orally to customers.
• Create finding aids and describe records in the records database.
• Coordinate housing, preservation, and access for various material types.
• Prepare weekly project status reports and communicate with customers.
• Train Archives Technicians in records identification and description.
