Job summary

FAPS, Inc. is seeking a Security Associate to maintain security by controlling access to the property and directing visitors and employees. The role includes screening vehicles, logging entries, and inspecting for security breaches across the port facility.

Responsibilities include managing visitor passes, coordinating with the Security Manager, and ensuring safety policies are followed. Evening and weekend shifts may be required; NJ pay transparency notes $17–$18 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid US Driver's License required.
• Port Access Card issued by the NJ State Police required.
• Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles as needed.

Responsibilities

• Screen all vehicles entering port property for proper clearance.
• Control outgoing traffic to ensure no vehicles or property leaves without proper authorization.
• Assist employees and customers to locate or start vehicles; direct visitors to appropriate building/parking.
• Log all vehicle/visitor entries and issue visitor passes when appropriate.
• Inspect property for signs of intrusion and contact supervisor if security breach occurs.
• Inspect buildings after close to ensure entrances/exits are secured.
• Maintain safe working environment; follow all safety policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

At FAPS, the Security Associate will maintain the security of all company property by controlling access to the property; appropriately screening and directing incoming customers, employees, and visitors; and making daily inspections of the property.

• Screen all vehicles entering port property for proper clearance.
• Control outgoing traffic to ensure no vehicles or property leaves the premises without proper authorization.
• Assist employees and customers as necessary to locate or start vehicles.
• Log all vehicles/persons entering the gate and issue a visitor pass, if appropriate.
• In a professional and pleasant manner, determine the nature of the visitor’s business and direct them to the appropriate building and/or parking area. Notify the FAPS office when visitors enter the property and the nature of their business, if appropriate.
• Collect paperwork from Truckers or other individuals removing vehicles from the property to insure they have proper clearance and are removing only the number of cars indicated on the paperwork.
• Maintain a log of all carriers removing vehicles from the premises. Forward log and load sheets to Security Manager each Morning.
• Visually and physically inspects property for signs of intrusion and contacts supervisor in the event of a security breach.
• During in climate weather, look for signs of rising water or other physical hazards to employees and/or property. Take proper precautions to vehicles to prevent damages.
• Assist truckers in locating vehicles by VIN number.
• After close of business for the day, inspect all buildings to ensure entrances and exits are secured.
• Maintain a safe working environment and follow all policies and procedures regarding safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Shift: Monday - Sunday shift work with possible overtime as needed.

Physical Working Attributes:

• Extended periods of standing and walking throughout shift
• Lift and carry a full five-gallon gas can.
• Must wear company provided uniforms when on duty.
• Exposed to all outdoor elements including heat, cold, rain, insects and other conditions which may exist from time to time.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid US Driver’s License.
• Obtain and maintain a Port Access Card issued by the New Jersey State Police
• Drive both automatic and straight shift vehicles as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to complete paperwork accurately and on time.
• Must be able to effectively enforce rules and regulations.
• Basic computer skills.
• Must project professional and courteous image.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally or in writing.
• Ability to interpret and follow verbal and written instructions.
