Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a High Energy Concepts Section Supervisor for the Weapon Control Concepts Development group (A5B) at the Laurel campus. You will lead with a clear vision, mentor staff, and coordinate on-site and sponsor-site personnel to address air and missile defense challenges.

You will guide research initiatives, develop physics models and M&S tools, and interface with Sponsors while sustaining high standards of accuracy and collaboration.

Qualifications

  • MS degree in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline
  • 3+ years of experience related to DoD Nuclear Survivability in Hostile/Natural Space Environments
  • Strong understanding of nuclear physics, particle physics, and/or solar physics
  • Experience with M&S tools modeling nuclear effects such as GEANT4, MCNP, ENDF, NJOY, or DIORAMA
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities
  • U.S. citizenship with eligibility for security clearance (Secret/Top Secret)

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the evolution and implementation of section strategy and align activities.
  • Manage on-site and sponsor-site staff, including remote personnel.
  • Propose research initiatives and implement strategies for air and missile defense challenges.
  • Set clear vision for the section and prioritize needs.
  • Lead staff development, performance coaching, and onboarding.
  • Define analytical infrastructure and assist with capital and task planning.
  • Supervise work quality, delegate tasks, and oversee hiring processes.
