Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD, seeks an experienced Section Supervisor to lead the A5B-4 team in advancing air and missile defense concepts. You will guide technical staff, coordinate with sponsors, and drive research initiatives.

Qualifications

  • MS degree in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or other applicable technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience related to DoD Nuclear Survivability in Hostile and/or Natural Space Environments
  • A strong understanding of nuclear physics, particle physics, and/or solar physics
  • A theoretical background in mathematics and statistics
  • Prior experience with M&S tools that model nuclear effects such as GEANT4, MCNP, ENDF, NJOY, or DIORAMA
  • Strong problem formulation and analysis skills
  • Previous research, development, and analysis experience
  • The ability to work with multiple organizations and have Sponsor engagement experience
  • Experience leading technical efforts and mentoring staff

Responsibilities

  • Lead A5B-4 section and assist group supervisor in guiding technically-oriented staff.
  • Develop physics codes, modeling and simulation tools, and analysis methods for Hostile/Natural Space Environments.
  • Assemble a team of subject matter experts and interface with Sponsors and management.
  • Mentor and coach staff; implement staff development and onboarding.
  • Support staff planning, resource allocation, and compliance with policies.
