Job summary

Indiana University Health West Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Day Shift receptionist for the Adult Medical Unit - 3B. The role supports patient flow, scheduling, and unit operations on a 6:00 am–6:30 pm schedule with every third weekend as needed.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and basic MS Office skills, with preferred experience in healthcare and related training.

  • Performs all clerical duties associated with supporting the Patient Care Unit.

Primary Responsibilities:

Ensures accurate and complete information is received from patient to facilitate coordination and communication between physician, unit staff, and ancillary departments. Schedules daily tests and procedures, maintains comprehensive up-to-date record of all patient tests and procedures, and signs patients in and out of unit. Provides receptionist functions for the unit and alerts unit management to issues or needs within the unit regarding policies, procedures, or practices. Performs all clerical duties associated with supporting the Patient Care Unit.

Candidate Requirements:

High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Must be able to complete required (if applicable) training program.
  • Requires basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Candidate Preferences:
  • Completion of Medical Assistant, Medical Secretary classes, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA preferred.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Benchmarks:
  • 3 months - Proficient in unit workflow, patient scheduling, record maintenance, and communication with minimal supervision.
  • 6 months - Independently manage coordination between nurses, doctors, patients, accurate information flow, and supporting unit operations.
  • 12 months - Efficient in operating as a resource for others, supporting team members, identify opportunities for improvement.
