Summit County Munis Self-Service Portal is seeking an experienced Investigator to perform post-indictment research, interpret evidence for trial prep, and support court procedures. Responsibilities include contacting agencies, preparing reports, and coordinating with prosecutors while maintaining office security.
The role requires extensive law enforcement background (10+ years) with at least 2 in investigations, a valid Ohio driver’s license, and an OSHP certificate, with strong data handling
Under direction from the assigned Team Supervisor and/or Chief Investigator, assists in post indictment case research; provides office security; processes records, interprets evidence, and related information for trial preparation. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Any combination of training and work experience that indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed below. High school equivalent education, and possession of an Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Certificate, plus ten (10) years of proven law enforcement experience with at least (2) years in investigations or equivalent. A valid State of Ohio driver’s license is required.
Advanced knowledge of crime investigation methods and procedures, law enforcement procedures and practices, court procedures, techniques of collection and preservation of evidence; safety practices and procedures, agency policies and procedures, interviewing and interrogation methods, criminal law, federal, state and local laws and ordinances. Thorough knowledge of office practice and procedures; computer operations and techniques, technical writing and data entry. Ability to communicate effectively; define problems; collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, law enforcement personnel and the general public; prepare and maintain accurate records and documents; exercise sound judgement under stressful circumstances; gather, collate and classify information about data, people and/or things, handle sensitive inquiries; from and in contact with officials, general public and informants; maintain confidentiality of classified information; recognize unusual or threatening situations and take appropriate action; demonstrate physical fitness. Skills in the operation of communication and computer equipment, keyboard operation, and safe and effective use of a firearm. (Indicates developed after employment).
Conducts comprehensive and thorough investigations and research (e.g., locates and contacts suspects, informants, attorneys, witnesses or representatives of federal, state and municipal agencies to obtain information by telephone, correspondence and/or interviews; prepares and submits investigative reports to prosecutors, etc.); performs research and file search (manually or electronically); provide testimony; interacts with law enforcement agencies and provides investigative assistance, records and other information. Coordinates cases with assigned prosecutors and law enforcement agencies; maintains field records and information request directives; assists with retrieval of evidence from agencies; participates in providing office security and assists with maintenance of security alarm systems; Maintains and operates a personal computer (e.g., utilizes database inquiry system, produces work processing documents and reports, etc.); develops, maintains and completes Matrix entries related to trial preparation of cases. May participate in and/or conduct training related to investigation policy and procedures; may attend workshops and conferences to gain knowledge of new investigation/information processes; serves as a mentor to new employees.
