QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must hold a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the area for which they are applying, or be eligible for a license. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is required, while a Master’s degree is preferred. The candidate should have a solid understanding of the subject, demonstrating proficiency in teaching. Prior teaching experience at the middle or high school level is preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom to enhance student learning. A commitment to continuous professional development and staying up to date with educational best practices and standards is critical.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Develop and implement an engaging and standards-aligned curriculum, incorporating a range of instructional strategies and resources.
  • Create lesson plans that align with state standards and the school's curriculum, catering to diverse learning styles and meeting the needs of all students.
  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction, using a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Assess student performance through tests, quizzes, homework, and other assignments, and provide timely feedback to promote academic growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about student progress, concerns, and achievements.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages respect, inclusivity, and active learning.
  • Utilize classroom technology to enhance instruction and engage students in the learning process.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including English language learners, students with disabilities, and advanced learners.
  • Offer individualized support and enrichment opportunities to ensure all students are challenged and successful in their learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the supervision of the School Principal and other administrators as appropriate.

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties performed are typically in the school setting. Performs professional work providing support and consultative services for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Employees may be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as needed.

The Associate Teacher salary for 2025–26 is approximately $48,265 (pending budget approval).
