  • Strong understanding of language development and assessment administration.

Responsibilities

Overview

The English Learner (EL) Teacher (6-12) will be responsible for providing direct English language development instruction and support to multilingual learners in a multi‑state virtual learning environment. This position partners with students, families, teachers, and school leaders to promote language acquisition, academic success, and compliance with federal and state English Learner requirements. Responsibilities include delivering English Learner services, administering language proficiency assessments, monitoring student progress, and maintaining required program documentation.

Essential Duties
  • Deliver direct English language development (ELD) instruction to English Learners in grades 6‑12 through live virtual instruction and small‑group learning.
  • Develop and implement instructional strategies that promote English language acquisition in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Differentiate instruction based on students’ English language proficiency levels, academic needs, and language goals.
  • Administer required English language proficiency assessments, including ELPA21, in accordance with state and federal requirements.
  • Monitor student progress using assessment and language proficiency data and adjust instruction to support student growth.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement instructional accommodations and language supports across content areas.
  • Participate in ILP meetings and collaborate with administrators, counselors, intervention teams, and families to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate records of student services, assessment results, progress monitoring, and compliance documentation.
  • Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and language development.
  • Support on‑site testing events periodically throughout the year (required).
  • Participate in virtual professional development and collaborate with colleagues on instructional best practices.
  • Attend virtual staff meetings and contribute to the overall success of the organization.
  • You will play a key role in our collective success by proactively pivoting to support emerging business needs and strategic priorities directed by your manager.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
  • A minimum of two (2) years of successful experience providing English Learner (EL) or English as a
  • Second Language (ESL) services, preferably in grades 6‑12; virtual teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of second language acquisition, evidence‑based instructional practices, and language development.
  • Thorough understanding of federal and state requirements related to English Learner identification, service delivery, assessment, and compliance.
  • Experience administering English language proficiency assessments and interpreting student data preferred.
  • Proven experience working independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to manage a digital task list and maintain a stable remote (home‑office) infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) in a professional or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas via written channels (Email, Google Chat, and Document Comments) with high clarity and low ambiguity.
  • Access to a private, secure, high‑speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.
Education & Certification Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree in TESOL, ESL, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification/license with an English as a Second Language (ESL), English Learner (EL), or equivalent endorsement/authorization in at least one of the following states: Oregon, Washington, Missouri, or Tennessee.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate English Learner or ESL certification, endorsement, or authorization in the remaining assigned program states, as needed.
