The Secondary School Principal serves as the instructional, operational, and cultural leader of the secondary school program, acting as the academic head responsible for ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all grade levels. The Principal leads the development of a shared vision and a strong school culture that promotes student achievement, supports effective instruction, and advances continuous professional growth for staff. The Principal is responsible for supervising the instructional program, coordinating school operations, and maintaining a safe, orderly, and inclusive learning environment. This includes aligning academic, socioemotional, and career-connected learning experiences; ensuring effective communication across stakeholders; implementing school policies; and addressing challenges or conflicts that may impact the school community. Through a focus on coherence, accountability, and continuous improvement, the Principal directs the school’s efforts toward maximizing student learning and achievement while advancing Vimenti’s vision of a collaborative leadership model.
ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the expansion and alignment of the secondary program, ensuring clear graduation pathways and comprehensive college and career readiness systems, including oversight of College Board programs (e.g., PSAT, SAT, AP), FAFSA completion processes, college application supports, financial aid literacy, and structured guidance for postsecondary planning and success.
- Articulate the Secondary School division’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, Vimenti's Best Teaching Practices, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed, consistent with their individual roles.
- Build and manage a distributed leadership structure, collaborating with coordinators and department heads to ensure coherence and accountability, including oversight of the credit system, transcript accuracy, graduation requirements, and the development of a master schedule aligned to credit attainment and student pathways toward graduation
- Assist in the admissions process by supporting school promotion and enrollment efforts. Develop and implement strategies to fill available spaces, conduct student needs evaluations and placement processes, and ensure high-quality experiences and effective onboarding for new students and their families.
- Develop academic, strategic, calendar, and staffing plans, as well as carry out the duties defined for all members of the Academic Leadership Team.
- Provide instructional leadership by ensuring rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum, effective teaching practices, and continuous improvement of academic programs, including the integration of college readiness and advanced course offerings (e.g., AP, Honors, and vocational pathways, as needed) to ensure all students meet graduation requirements and earn required credits
- Supervise, evaluate, and coach staff, fostering professional growth, accountability, and high performance across instructional and leadership teams; coordinate interdepartmental efforts to ensure alignment and coherence across academic and support programs, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as graduation rates, attendance, and school culture metrics to inform coaching, decision-making, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Use assessment and performance data to monitor student progress, including GPA tracking, cohort analysis, and early identification of at‑risk students; guide instructional decisions and implement targeted interventions to improve achievement, on‑track‑to‑graduation indicators, and overall student outcomes
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and high‑expectations school culture that supports student engagement and socioemotional development, including implementing proactive dropout prevention strategies, monitoring cohort persistence, and ensuring timely interventions to keep all students on track toward graduation
- Support the integration of interdisciplinary, project‑based, and career‑connected learning experiences, including internships and community engagement, as well as structured academic, behavioral, and socioemotional interventions for adolescents to support successful transition into young adulthood, college, and career pathways
- Oversee school operations, including budgeting, staffing, scheduling, facilities, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations, including federal programs (Title I, II, and IV) and compliance with IDEA and PEI requirements, ensuring effective implementation, monitoring, and reporting of all mandated services and resources to support student achievement and equity
- Foster strong communication and partnerships with families, staff, and community stakeholders to support student success and school initiatives, including developing strategic alliances with universities and potential employers to expand college access, career pathways, internships, and postsecondary opportunities
- Model professional, ethical, and visionary leadership, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation, using multiple measures of organizational health and effectiveness—such as the Denison Organizational Culture Framework, school climate surveys, and other validated feedback tools to guide reflection, alignment, and improvement efforts
- Provide a School climate which promotes high morale and student achievement; provides recognition and celebration for student, staff and school accomplishments through excellent internal personal communications (contacts, bulletins, letters, reinforcement programs, written or verbal daily announcements, awards assemblies and others).
- Foster unity, harmony and cooperation among members of the school community; develop positive relations and serve as liaison for the Vimenti 2Gen Model. Including, collaboration in the integration with the extended programs after the regular school day; assisting on the coordination and integration of the co‑curricular and extra‑curricular programs of the school; have a visible presence in them and require all staff members to do so, as well.
Other Functions:
- Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Chairs meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special school committees, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school and other organizational objectives.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Certification as Secondary School Principal. Master’s or Doctor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in school administration preferred or when feasible. Minimum of three years of successful experience as an administrator. Appropriate supervisory/administrative experience within educational setting.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal and communication/listening skills, including written and oral skills in both English and Spanish preferred or when feasible. Demonstrated proactive orientation with emphasis in academic and leadership credibility. Ability to motivate students and teachers, preferably by maintaining a visible, approachable and positive outlook in the handling of situations. Computer/technological skills; ability to research and abstract relevant educational developments, from the Web. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time well. Ability to prepare and manage school division’s budget and allocated resources.
Phisical Demands: Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. The position may require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. May reach above shoulder heights or below the waist and lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday and must be able to lift 15 pounds and use proper lifting techniques.
Mental Demands: Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources. Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts. Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
