Job description

MISSION

Global Preparatory Academy (GPA) is a mission driven school, dedicated to developing compassionate global leaders through a bilingual/bi-literate education program that focuses on hands-on and cultural learning opportunities.

SUMMARY

GPA uses both English and Spanish to instruct students in all core content areas. As a dual language school, we connect students from diverse linguistic backgrounds and educate them together in a highly rigorous, engaging and nurturing environment. Students will develop high levels of bilingualism and bi-literacy. Through two-way immersion (TWI) in English and Spanish, students will affirm the values of their own cultures while acquiring an understanding and appreciation of other cultures. We are committed to providing relevant instruction, pushing our students to be critical thinkers and change makers in an ever-changing world.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be highly present and visible during school hours, including supervising arrival, in between class transitions, and dismissal, to make sure students are always where they are supposed to be and ensuring an achievement-oriented and structured school culture at these times
  • Track and report to the Assistant Principal student and staff behavior data (student incidents, consistency of implementation of Responsive Classroom practices, incident logging practices, etc.)
  • Update, share and train staff on school wide procedures (e.g. responding to student discipline at the classroom level, in class behavioral interventions, etc.)
  • Work with student leaders to create systems and structures that promote student voice and leadership opportunities in our school
  • Lead portions of All School Meeting and other school-wide events, celebrating school wide culture and student progress
  • Develop staff skills in creating a positive, consistent, structured and achievement-oriented school culture
  • Coach teachers and other leaders to develop, teach and hold students to high, clear and logical expectations, routines and consequences. Support implementation of logical consequences when needed
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, wellness team and other members of the Leadership Team to identify students who need behavior intervention services using data, and monitoring placement, implementation, and outcomes of behavior intervention plans
  • Lead regular culture data review and response meetings with the principal and other team members
  • Serve as family’s primary point of contact around issues related to school culture and discipline
  • Lead selection of Student Leader representatives; plan and conduct regular meetings
  • Oversee, monitor and adjust as needed, schoolwide tracking of behavior incident documentation
  • Conduct restorative or mediation work with individual students, or groups of students, as part of responses to events and provide family communication and documentation
  • In consultation with the Principal & Assistant Principal on the suspension process, including family communication, ensuring student learning during suspension, and scheduling and leading reentry meetings
  • Support new teacher development with classroom management
  • Seek and be open to any new opportunities or responsibilities that will promote the development of our students outside of the classroom
  • Seek out and build relationships with community organizations to create a strong community/school partnership
  • Additional duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Spanish bilingual preferred
  • Teaching experience and a strong record of helping underserved students achieve academic success
  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills
