Summary

The Secondary Music Teacher provides basic educational instruction in music to secondary-aged students, utilizing teaching techniques aligned with school objectives.

About Chief Leschi Schools

Formerly known as Puyallup Tribal School, founded in 1976 to address dropout rates among Puyallup tribe youth. It is the largest tribal school in Washington and one of over 200 tribal schools nationwide, funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Plans and coordinates the secondary music program, teaching skills in music appreciation, melody, harmony, and rhythm using an effective curriculum.
  • Establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating these to students.
  • Uses effective classroom management strategies.
  • Evaluates student progress, keeps records, and prepares reports.
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians about student progress.
  • Assists students with health, attitude, and learning issues in collaboration with staff.
  • Maintains professional growth through district-provided and personal development activities.
  • Supervises students during out-of-class activities.
  • Participates in faculty committees and student activities.
  • Collaborates effectively with staff and para-educators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with relevant endorsement.
  • Successful secondary-level teaching or student-teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Native American or diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of AVID, Responsive Classroom, Trauma-Informed Practices, Restorative Practices, Project GLAD, Project-Based Learning.

Additional Information

Reporting to: Building Administrator or designee.
