Job summary

Wayland Union Schools in Michigan is offering a Secondary Guidance Counselor Intern position for graduates or graduate students. The internship provides hands-on experience supporting students in academic, personal, and career development under the supervision of experienced counselors.

You will work collaboratively with teachers and families, participate in team meetings, and help develop a Professional Growth Plan while completing a 30-week, 20-hours-per-week schedule funded by a grant.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master’s program in School Counseling or related field.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to support diverse student needs in academic, personal, and career areas.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing individual and group counseling to address academic, emotional, social, and career needs.
• Help students develop coping strategies, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills.
• Support academic planning, monitor progress, and interpret test results with families.
• Organize career exploration activities, fairs, and informational sessions.
• Contribute to guidance curriculum development and staff training.
• Maintain confidential records and collaborate with teachers and parents.
• Develop a Professional Growth Plan with supervising counselor.
