SMI Metal Precision, a 50-year-old family-owned shop in north Houston, is building a brand-new 2nd shift team to handle large-diameter parts on a GNL VTC-2000 with Siemens 840D controls. The role emphasizes setup, offsets, and tool changes rather than programming, with a 2nd shift starting mid-afternoon and relocation assistance for the right candidate.

The position requires 3+ years of hands-on CNC experience, overhead crane operation, and comfort working with heavy components.

Qualifications

• Hands-on large-part CNC machining experience.

Responsibilities

• Set up and run a GNL VTC-2000 CNC vertical turning lathe/mill-turn (Siemens 840D), turning, milling, and drilling on the same part.
• Perform setups, offsets, and tool changes.
• Machine and measure large-diameter components, up to ~2 m / ~100" OD.
• Handle, position, and flip large, heavy parts safely.
• Operate a 25-ton overhead crane in the High Bay.
• Verify your own first-article inspection, then cross-check a second machinist's first article.
• Produce finished precision components that move directly into assembly.
