Midsouth Steel in College Park, GA is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Inspector on second shift to oversee welding and fabrication work and ensure finished products meet quality standards and project specs.

This hands-on role requires reading blueprints, performing dimensional inspections, maintaining quality records, and collaborating with welders and production teams in a fast-paced shop setting. Proactive issue identification and adherence to safety are essential.

Qualifications

• Ability and willingness to work second shift (Mon–Thu, 3:00 PM–1:30 AM)
• Experience in structural steel fabrication, welding, or related manufacturing environment
• Ability to read tape measure and perform dimensional inspections
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication details
• Familiarity with welding processes, terminology and symbols
• Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication practices and quality expectations
• Strong documentation control and recordkeeping skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies or workmanship issues
• Ability to communicate effectively with welders, fabricators, supervisors, and management
• Ability to work independently and make sound quality-related decisions
• Ability to work safely in a fast-paced steel fabrication shop

Responsibilities

• Inspect structural steel and fabrication throughout production
• Monitor welding and fabrication against approved drawings and specs
• Perform visual inspections of welds and components and identify defects
• Verify dimensions and fit-up using tape measures and inspection tools
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, shop drawings, details, welding symbols
• Collaborate with welders, fabricators, foremen and management to resolve issues
• Document inspection results and nonconformances promptly
• Maintain quality records and assist with documentation control
• Ensure inspections and quality checkpoints are completed
• Identify recurring issues and report to Quality Manager and production
• Support compliance with project specifications and welding requirements
• Assist with final inspections before painting, shipping, or delivery
• Maintain clean, safe work area during inspections
• Perform other quality-related duties as assigned
