Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor press units, feeders, coating, and delivery areas.
• Follow job tickets and customer requirements; ensure quality standards.

SECOND PRESSMAN – KOMORI SHEETFED

Location: East Longmeadow, Massachusetts
Shift: Second Shift, 6:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.
Pay: Competitive and based on experience

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Second Pressman to support the operation of multicolor Komori sheetfed offset presses in a high-quality commercial printing and packaging environment. This individual will work closely with the Lead Pressman to complete press setups, makereadies, production runs, quality checks, washups, and routine equipment maintenance.

The facility produces high-end commercial print and packaging products, including brochures, catalogs, labels, and folding-carton packaging.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the Lead Pressman with setting up and operating Komori sheetfed offset presses
• Support makereadies, including loading paper, hanging plates, installing blankets, filling ink fountains, and preparing coating systems
• Help maintain proper color, registration, ink density, and print quality throughout each production run
• Monitor the feeder, press units, coating system, and delivery area
• Read and follow job tickets, production specifications, proofs, and customer requirements
• Inspect printed sheets for defects, color variation, registration issues, and coating quality
• Make basic press adjustments under the direction of the Lead Pressman
• Assist with press washups, color changes, plate changes, and job changeovers
• Troubleshoot minor mechanical and print-quality issues
• Maintain accurate production, material, and waste records
• Keep the press and surrounding work area clean, organized, and safe
• Follow all safety, quality, and waste-reduction procedures
• Work collaboratively with pressroom, prepress, bindery, and finishing team members
• Be prepared to step into greater press responsibilities as skills and experience develop

QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous experience working as a Second Pressman, Assistant Pressman, or Sheetfed Press Operator
• Experience with Komori sheetfed presses is strongly preferred
• Experience operating or assisting on comparable multicolor Heidelberg, Mitsubishi, KBA, or other 40-inch sheetfed presses will be considered
• Familiarity with multicolor printing, in-line coating, UV or H-UV production is preferred
• Understanding of press makeready, plates, blankets, ink, paper, registration, and color control
• Ability to read job tickets, measurements, proofs, and production instructions
• Strong mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting ability
• Dependable attendance and willingness to work second shift
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, quality-focused environment
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand and move throughout a 12-hour shift
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and work around moving production equipment
• Ability to safely handle printing materials, tools, inks, coatings, and cleaning supplies

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced assistant or Second Pressman who wants to strengthen their Komori experience and continue developing toward a Lead Pressman position.

$22 - $30 an hour
