Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks temporary Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 season. The Snow Removal Operators (hourlysnowbird) perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair and upkeep of roads, bridges and other related structures and features.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of four years of high school or equivalent.
• Seasonal employees must possess CDL with endorsements (Class B now; A by year three) and no airbrake restrictions.
• One year of driving experience with a clean record prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assists in emergency snow and ice control.
• Serves in maintenance tasks for equipment and grounds.
• Performs other duties as required within scope.
