Job summary

Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 season. The role involves operating CDL-licensed equipment, assisting in snow and ice control, and performing maintenance on trucks, snowplows, and related gear.

On-call, non-benefit, and temporary with part-time hours. Positions are in multiple districts, with a hybrid approach requiring 1–5 in-office days weekly depending on need.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of four years of high school or equivalent.
• For seasonal employees, possession of a Class B CDL with appropriate endorsements is required; third year may require Class A.
• Requires one year of driving experience immediately preceding appointment.

Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assists in emergency snow and ice control.
• Serves in servicing, washing, and making minor repairs of equipment.
• Performs routine housekeeping duties and other tasks at the headquarters grounds.
• Performs other duties as required.
