Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation is hiring temporary Snow Removal Operators for the 2026/2027 season. Operate CDL Class A/B vehicles, assist in snow and ice control, and perform equipment maintenance and groundskeeping duties at multiple locations across Illinois.

Position is on-call, with hours varying by weather and district needs. Applicants must meet CDL requirements and be able to work outdoors in diverse conditions. Pre-employment screenings apply.

Qualifications

• Requires completion of four years of high school or equivalent.
• Seasonal employees must have a Class B CDL with endorsements (X or N) for two years; third year requires Class A CDL with endorsements (X or N).
• Requires one year driving experience prior to appointment and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operates CDL Class A or B licensed vehicles.
• Assists in emergency snow and ice control.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment such as trucks and snowplows.
• Performs general groundskeeping and other duties as assigned.
