Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation is seeking general laborers for the Division of Roadway Repair & Maintenance to assist in repairing and maintaining roadways and highways. Duties include laying asphalt, sweeping sites, raking, shoveling, pothole repair, and operating basic maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in laying hot-mix asphalt and pavement maintenance tasks.
• Clean construction sites by sweeping and debris removal.
• Assist in general roadway construction: raking, shoveling, tamping asphalt, pothole repair, mowing, guiderail and fencing work.
• Use and maintain tools and power equipment for maintenance tasks.
• Load and unload materials and equipment; assist in traffic direction around construction zones.
