Baxter and Woodman Inc is seeking a Seasonal Restoration Ecologist - Stewardship Crew I to support restoration projects in Naperville, Marengo, or Mokena, IL. The role involves fieldwork with a senior ecologist, in a rewarding seasonal context from May to October 2026.

You will plant, seed, perform erosion control, brush cutting, and herbicide application across streams, prairies, and woodlands, with projects often within an hour of our offices. Flexibility and outdoor work are essential.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources or related field.
• Must obtain herbicide license within 30 days of start date.
• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to move and carry 35–50 lbs and work outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Complete restoration work including planting, seeding, erosion control, brush cutting, and herbicide application.
• Assist with stream restoration and detention basin retrofits.
• Serve municipalities, subdivisions, and private clients.

About the role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Seasonal Ecological Stewardship Crew member for our Naperville, Marengo, or Mokena, IL office. The Stewardship Crew member will complete all aspects of restoration work and have the opportunity to work directly with our senior ecologists. This seasonal position will be for the duration of May 2026 through October 2026. Most projects are within an hour of our offices.

What your day-to-day will look like, what you will learn on the job

Complete all aspects of restoration work which includes planting, seeding, erosion control methods, brush cutting, and herbicide application within stream, prairie, woodland restoration areas.

Help assist with construction projects like stream restoration and detention basin retrofits.

Complete work for municipalities, subdivisions, and private clients.

Education Requirement

Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources or related field.

Must be able to acquire herbicide license within 30 days of start date.

Compensation The pay range for this role is $21.00 to $26.00. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
