This position is a great opportunity for those who are looking for seasonal employment and are studying and/or planning to work in horticulture, the landscaping sector, agriculture, the natural resource arena, or similar. Pay rate is $19.00 an hour and seasonal employment is 40 hours a week. The schedule will be Monday through Friday 7:30am-3:30pm. Start and end date is flexible. The purpose of this position is to provide seasonal maintenance throughout the City of Portsmouth. Duties include painting, cleaning, facility repair and maintenance, and parks and greenspace maintenance and repair. This position will require working with hand tools, working on ladders, and operating power tools and equipment as needed.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

1. Mows grass; weeds and clears brush as needed. Rakes and picks up refuse, leaves, and other debris around the facilities.
2. Assists in the maintenance and repair of facilities and grounds.
3. Performs other heavy laboring and various semi-skilled and skilled tasks essential to municipal buildings, public works, and utility operations using a wide variety of power, pneumatic, and hand tools.
4. Operates and checks vehicles, attachments, and tools for correct fluid levels, pressures, and general operating condition. Services, cleans, and washes vehicles and equipment.
5. Reports repair needs to supervisors.
6. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Applicants for this position must be 18 years of age, have graduated from high school, or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED). Experience and/or study in the field is preferred but not required. Must have a valid driver's license.
