Job summary

County of Culpeper's Parks & Recreation department is hiring a lifeguard for the Culpeper Community Pool. Under supervision you will monitor swimmers, enforce rules, and respond to emergencies to keep patrons safe.

The position is summer seasonal, roughly 35-40 hours weekly, with day, evening, and weekend shifts. Applicants must be at least 16, have a current lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, and First Aid, and be willing to obtain missing certifications by May 1.

Qualifications

• Current Lifeguard Certification (American Red Cross or equivalent).
• CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer.
• First Aid Certification.
• If not currently held, willingness to obtain all required certifications prior to May 1.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patrons and the aquatic environment to prevent danger.
• Enforce pool rules, regulations, laws, and ordinances fairly and consistently.
• Perform safety inspections of the pool, deck, and equipment at shift start and throughout.
• Respond immediately to emergencies, including rescues, and assist with swim lessons or water safety programs as needed.
• Maintain required certifications and keep on file (lifeguard, CPR/AED, First Aid).
• Secure the facility at closing and ensure doors and gates are locked.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; participate in drills and professional development.
• Wear the proper uniform and represent the Department professionally.
