Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE

To safeguard the lives of the swimmers.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Employee has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintains and enforces pool safety.
2. Explains and enforces basic pool rules.
3. Provides information regarding facility use and hours of operation.
4. Assists with conflict resolution and customer relations.
5. Assists in general maintenance and clean-up of activities/facilities.
6. Maintains property of the City of Killeen pool facility.
7. Submits reports to supervisor on accidents, damage to facilities and equipment, problems among staff, and complaints from facility users.
8. Monitors swimmers.
9. Keeps swimmers clear of guard stand.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

1. Previous experience as a lifeguard, previous American Red Cross lifeguard and/or water park certifications preferred.
2. Must have an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (to include first aid, CPR, and AED) and Water Park certification, by the first working day.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and customers.
2. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
3. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
4. Ability to utilize organizational skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

***$200 Lifeguard Bonus***

Must be able to work from 6:30 am until 11:00 pm. Must be able to work weekends.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

A wet/dry vac, lifeguard equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires someone to be able to lift and carry equipment for pools up to 75 pounds. Must be able to handle paperwork, set up facility, and to perform CPR/First Aid/AED. Must be able to consistently monitor swimmers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires that the individual to work outdoors for prolonged periods of time and be exposed to various weather conditions. The lifeguard may be required to be present at all times the pool is open.
