Description

Responsible for teaching swim lessons to participants in a class environment. Work is performed under immediate supervision with the exercise of judgment in accordance with established policies, procedures, and techniques.

This position is a seasonal summer position.

Preference is given to applicants available for the entire summer season. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for program operation.

Examples of Duties

• Prepares lesson plans to conduct daily instruction.
• Assesses ability level of program participants and makes recommendations on participant class placement.
• Instructs class participants on swim skills.
• Supervises class participants and swim lesson assistants.
• Maintains maximum safety for all participants and staff.
• Evaluates and records daily class attendance.
• Discusses participant progress with parent/guardian.
• Distributes and collects swim lesson information, certificates of completion, evaluation forms, attendance records, and other paperwork.
• Completes necessary paperwork immediately after each session.
• Uses sound judgment in determining pool use during bad weather or unsafe conditions.
• Performs other related tasks as required.

Experience and Training

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must demonstrate proficiency in front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Certificates and Licenses Required

• Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding or equivalent.
• Preferred: Current certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or equivalent.
