Join Our Team This Summer - Seasonal Pool Positions in Augusta, Kansas!

Looking for a fun and rewarding summer job? The City of Augusta is now hiring for seasonal pool positions! This is your chance to gain valuable work experience, develop leadership skills, and be part of a great team while enjoying the summer sun.

Details: Starting at $12.00-$13.00 hour. Hourly rate may vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications.

This position is a Part-Time seasonal role (Late May through Mid-August) working a variable work schedule, Sunday - Saturday.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK

Under supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of the Augusta Municipal Swimming Pool by monitoring activities in swimming area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the pool area; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
  2. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  3. Enforce rules to prevent injuries.
  4. Keeps bathrooms and basket room clean and clutter free.
  5. Picks up litter and debris from grounds and parking lots.
  6. Performs swimming lessons, as assigned.
  7. Maintains a high standard of customer service.
  8. Regular attendance of varying hours including weekends and holidays is required.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

  1. Collect admission fees or passes from patrons.
  2. Stops patrons from rough play in the water or the surrounding area.
  3. May determine and treat chlorine content and pH value of water.
  4. Helps other team members accomplish tasks.
  5. Abides by all standards, conduct and policies, as stated in Employee Handbook.

REQUIREMENTS

Education, Licensure, or Certification

  1. Current certification as Lifeguard by the American Red Cross - if you don't have it, we'll help you attain it.
  2. Current First Aid certification - if you don't have it, we'll help you attain it.

Experience, Specialized Knowledge, and Other Requirements

  1. Proficient swimming ability and the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques.
  2. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  3. Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  4. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  5. Must be at least 15 years old, pursuant to American Red Cross lifeguarding and water safety age requirements.

Skills and Abilities – With or without accommodations

Physical

  1. Frequently required to sit, kneel, stand, stoop, reach and manipulate objects.
  2. Attentive to visual and audible cues for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors.
  3. Ability to properly extract victims from the pool to the deck.
  4. Has normal eyesight and depth perception, with or without correction.
  5. Hears normal tones, with or without correction.

Cognitive

  1. Work under supervision; work cooperatively with other employees.
  2. Effective communication skills and engage positively with the public.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions, including temperature extremes. The employee may regularly be exposed to hot, sunny conditions. The employee is also regularly exposed to chemicals and other chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
