Job summary

Brookings-Municipal-Utilities is seeking a Seasonal Laborer for part-time operations in Brookings, SD. The role supports our full-time staff with routine maintenance, grounds keeping, and general outdoor work.

You must be dependable, safety oriented, and at least 18, with a valid driver's license; a pre-employment drug screen and background check are required.

Work outdoors in varying weather; assist with mowing, planting, and other tasks as needed while supporting the Electric Department.

Our seasonal team plays a vital role in serving the Brookings community. This position is responsible for assisting our full-time staff with routine maintenance, performing various manual labor tasks, and general grounds keeping work. Candidate must be dependable, responsible and safety oriented.

Essential Functions

• Operates a company vehicle, including a small dump truck (CDL not required).
• Perform various duties in regards to maintenance, grounds keeping, and light equipment operation.
• Operate equipment, machinery and tools associated with mowing, raking, and planting.
• Assists with routine maintenance duties when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; speak; hear; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

• While performing the duties of this position, the employee primarily works in an outdoor environment.
• While performing the duties of this position, the employee will have frequent exposure to outside weather conditions, which may include extreme heat.
• May be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal with occasional exposure to loud noise levels.
