Job summary

San Diego State University Research Foundation seeks one Seasonal Invasive Technician for invasive plant mapping and control on San Clemente Island. The role involves arduous outdoor work, long hours, and lifting, with housing provided on the island.

Position runs January 5, 2027 through June 2027, full-time hourly with benefits; reporting to the Project Manager and collaborating with a small crew and Navy personnel in a remote setting.

Qualifications

• Completion of sufficient lower division coursework.
• Equivalent of one year related experience in lieu of coursework.
• Ability to pass a background check for military base access.

Responsibilities

• Monitor invasive plant populations.
• Control invasive plants manually, mechanically and chemically.
• Monitor rare plant populations and vegetation cover.
• Maintain native species outplantings and collect propagules.
• Propagate native plants.
• Use GPS in the field and GIS software; enter data and maintain databases.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
