Job summary

City of Evanston is seeking an Accessible Recreation Assistant to support supervision and safety for participants with disabilities across multiple activities including Special Olympics sports, after-school programs, trips, camps, and social events.

The role involves individualized support, safety procedures, and collaboration with the recreation team. CPR/First Aid and NCI certifications are required, with a seasonal schedule and varying hours.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Must be highly motivated and enthusiastic in order to provide quality experiences for our participants.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug/alcohol screen.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with supervision and safety of individuals with disabilities using behavior management plans and NCI techniques.
• Demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment.
• Maintain open communication with Program Coordinator/leader and staff about participants' needs, progress, or situations.
• Provide individualized support to ensure participants' successful participation in activities.
• Provide personal assistance to individuals with disabilities, including transfers, eating, toileting, etc.
• Follow directions, policies, and procedures.
• Enthusiastically implement and participate in activities.
• Maintain a professional attitude with participants, families, staff, and community members.
• Attend mandatory trainings.
