Job summary

The City of Evanston is hiring an Accessible Recreation Assistant to help supervise and ensure the safety of participants with various disabilities across a range of programs at multiple locations.

You will provide individualized support, assist with activity implementation, and apply safety protocols (NCI, First Aid) when certified, while collaborating with staff and families. This is a seasonal, on-site position with a starting wage of $16.75 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Highly motivated and enthusiastic in order to provide quality experiences for participants.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug/alcohol screen.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with supervision and safety of individuals with disabilities, including behavior management plans and NCI techniques and First Aid, once certified.
• Demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment.
• Maintain effective and open communication with Program Coordinator/leader and other staff with information concerning participants' needs, progress, or situations related to programming.
• Provide individualized support as needed to ensure participants' successful participation in activities.
• Provide personal assistance to individuals with disabilities as needed, including assistance with transferring, eating, toileting, etc.
• Must be able to follow directions, policies, and procedures.
• Enthusiastically implement and participate in activities.
• Maintain a professional attitude with participants, families, other staff, and community members.
• Attend mandatory trainings.
