Job summary

The DeLong Co., Inc. in Marengo, IL is seeking a Grain Scale Operator for a full-time seasonal role. You will handle scale operations, customer service, basic grain accounting, and assist with grain grading and sampling, while representing the company professionally.

Typical hours are Monday–Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. with some flexibility during peak seasons; overtime may be required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for accurate data recording and daily tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Experience in grain handling or agricultural setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and provide outstanding service at all times.
  • Manage inbound and outbound grain shipments at the scale.
  • Grade grain and identify foreign materials.
  • Record test data: weights, temperatures, grades, moisture, and quantities.
  • Maintain accurate trucking weighings and grading records.
  • Coordinate delivery numbers and daily data inputs.

Description

The Grain Scale Operator’s responsibilities involve scale operations, customer service, communications, clerical tasks, basic grain accounting and other duties as assigned. Operator is responsible for all commodity inbound and outbound tasks and assisting with grain grading and sampling tasks. You must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. It is important to represent the company in a pleasant, friendly, and professional manner at all times when providing exceptional customer service.

Pay: $19-$21/hour based on experience. A seasonal bonus may be provided based on attendance and performance at the end of the completed harvest season.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time seasonal position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours. Additional hours are mandatory during peak seasons.

  • Provide outstanding customer service skills at all times when greeting and servicing customers.
  • Manage inbound and outbound grain shipments for customers coming across the truck scale.
  • Ability to grade grain and identity foreign materials
  • Record test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded.
  • Perform required record keeping for trucking weighing and accurate grading activities.
  • Coordination of delivery numbers, daily inputs, and verification of accuracy.
  • Operates on-scale interface system and transfer of data.
  • Responds to customer inquiries at the counter.
  • Assisting with other office functions as needed.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
