Job description

The Gardener and Groundskeeper role is a seasonal 20 hour per week position. Candidate is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the landscaped areas around Bailey Nurseries’ main office and nearby properties. This includes routine garden care, seasonal planting, and supporting special events or displays. The role requires hands-on outdoor work, attention to detail, and collaboration with internal teams and external contractors

Perform garden maintenance: weeding, deadheading, pruning, mulching, planting, and seasonal clean-up.
Monitor plant health and soil conditions; identify issues such as pests or diseases and coordinate with the Plant Health team for resolution.
Maintain coordination with external contractors for lawn mowing and irrigation system maintenance.
Propose enhancements or planting updates to landscape beds to support a vibrant and attractive appearance.
Assist with seasonal plant rotations, holiday decorating, and event-related landscaping needs.
Support landscape maintenance at nearby Bailey properties as needed and as scheduling allows.
Ensure tools and equipment are maintained in good working conditions.
Keep walkways and entrances clear of debris and safe for staff and visitors.

Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in garden maintenance or landscape horticulture (professional or volunteer).
Basic knowledge of landscape plants and their care, with a passion for design aesthetics.
Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate with vendors and internal partners.
Self-directed, reliable, and flexible with scheduling.
Valid driver’s license for off-site travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with basic irrigation systems and troubleshooting.
Educational background in horticulture, landscape design, or related field.
Experience with seasonal display planting or low-maintenance garden design.

Additional Information
This position requires regular outdoor work including kneeling, digging, standing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The employee must be comfortable working in a variety of weather conditions and may be required to travel between properties.
