The board’s administrative duties include accepting campaign finance and candidate filing forms, handling election ballots, maintaining voting machines, training election officials, and counting and certifying votes.

Job Summary

Election Center Associates assist the Election Center Supervisor, Service Center Operations Manager and the Election Services Vendor in maintaining the Election Service Center (ESC) and carrying out the preparation of election machines, poll worker supplies, ballots, and other Election Day equipment or supplies. This position may not exceed the employment term of twelve (12) weeks per hiring period.

Under the supervision of the Election Center Supervisor, the Election Center Associate responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Maintaining the ESC by cleaning and organizing office, production, and storage areas, keeping management aware of supply inventories, immediately bringing any injuries or broken or defective supplies or equipment to management's notice.
  • Being trained on and having a working knowledge of all election details, nomenclature, and Election Day supplies and equipment.
  • Keeping detailed records of supplies and machine inventories.
  • Receiving, inventory, and organizing all Election Day supplies.
  • Preparing poll worker and support staff supplies for Election Day.
  • Working with the Election Services Vendor, Service Center Supervisor and the Deputy Election Administrator to prepare and assist in testing all Election Day machines.
  • Receiving, inventory, and preparing for distribution all Election Day ballots.
  • Assembling poll worker and mechanic kits.
  • Preparing all election machines and supplies for distribution to polling sites.
  • Supporting the Satellite Voting/Early Voting Sites with supplies or equipment delivery, as directed by management.
  • Preparing the ESC for Election Day activities.
  • Being available on Election Day to help solve problems and run supplies or equipment to polling sites.
  • Being comfortable with local/national media in the building from time to time. Candidates will never be asked and should never speak to the media during business hours.
  • Receiving, sorting, and storing Election Day supplies and machines from the regional sites on Election Night.
  • Preparing the Election Center for post-election canvassing.
  • Cleaning, organizing, and preparing the ESC for the off-season.

IMPORTANT: This position requires each candidate have the ability to repetitively lift 35-50lbs. (thirty-five to fifty pounds).

  • High School Diploma/GED or previous election experience required.
  • Must be a Marion County resident registered voter in.
  • Four-year, two-year degree, or some college experience preferred.
  • Previous warehouse, factory, production environment, or clerical/office work preferred.
  • Forklift experience preferred, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Current Election Service Center working conditions include 37,000 sq. ft. warehouse and air conditioned office areas. Dress is commensurate with working conditions (e.g., jeans, t-shirt/sweatshirt, construction pants, etc.). No shorts allowed for safety reasons; closed toe shoes are required at all times and steel toed shoes/boots are recommended.
