Job summary

Discovery Land Company is seeking a Culinary Extern at Dune Deck Beach Club in Westhampton Beach, NY. The extern will support the Culinary Department during the Summer Semester (April–Sept) and work across kitchen stations.

Qualifications include enrollment in a culinary/hospitality program, six months back-of-house experience, ServSafe certification, and strong health and safety knowledge. Flexibility and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an accredited Culinary or Hospitality program.
• Six months back-of-house experience in a foodservice outlet.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• ServSafe certification.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to read/write/speak English; additional languages preferred.
• Physically able to handle indoor/outdoor work and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Ensure dishes are uniform and prepared to set specifications.
• Work rotating shifts across all kitchen stations.
• Maintain quality and ensure standard recipes are followed.
• Assist with prep such as chopping, butchering, and sauces.
• Keep kitchen clean with light housekeeping and waste disposal.
• Respond urgently to guest needs during interactions.
• Stock and restock kitchen items and ingredients daily.
• Ensure safety standards are always complied with by department.
• Monitor expiration dates and inspect ingredients prior to use.
• Maintain equipment and report safety concerns to leaders.
• Attend department meetings and trainings as necessary.
