Job summary

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a Cook for the Catering & Events department on a seasonal (fixed term) basis. The role supports breakfast and lunch service, assists the sous chef, and ensures sanitary, high-quality food preparation.

Requirements include a high school diploma, at least one year in food service, and familiarity with Outlook and Excel. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a team is essential. Salary ranges from $18.61 to $22.20 per hour, with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Education: High school degree is required.
• Culinary education is helpful.
• Experience: Must have a minimum of one-year experience working in a food service establishment.
• Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow instructions and proper sanitation procedures.
• Ability to work as part of a team and maintain an organized work space.

Responsibilities

• Assist the sous chef with preparing hot and cold food for breakfast and lunch including eggs, pancakes, salads, sandwiches, and soup.
• Take inventory and restock products.
• Maintain cooking equipment and a sanitary work environment.
• Troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs on the kitchen and coffee equipment.
• Consistently provide quality food and beverages for all customers by adhering to the menu, health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
• Interact with customers and coworkers in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner.
