Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead sealcoat crews on commercial, municipal, and residential projects.
• Plan daily work activities and assign tasks to crew members.
• Operate sealcoat spray systems, crack sealing equipment, blowers, and skid steers.
• Inspect project sites before, during, and after work for quality and compliance with specs.
• Monitor material usage and ensure proper mixing of sealcoat products.
• Ensure safety and OSHA-compliant practices; conduct daily safety meetings.
• Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and customers on schedules.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and time records.
• Inspect and maintain equipment; report maintenance needs promptly.
• Train crew on sealcoating techniques, equipment use, and safety.
• Ensure proper traffic control measures when required.
• Adjust schedules based on weather conditions; maintain a clean job site.

Job Summary

S&S Paving & Construction is seeking an experienced and motivated Sealcoat Foreman to lead a crew performing sealcoating, crack sealing, striping preparation, and asphalt maintenance projects. The Sealcoat Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to company quality standards. This position requires strong leadership skills, knowledge of asphalt preservation methods, and the ability to coordinate crews, equipment, and materials while maintaining productivity and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead sealcoat crews on commercial, municipal, and residential asphalt maintenance projects.
• Plan daily work activities and assign tasks to crew members.
• Operate and oversee the operation of sealcoat spray systems, crack sealing equipment, blowers, skid steers, and other related equipment.
• Inspect project sites before, during, and after work to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with project specifications.
• Monitor material usage and ensure proper mixing and application of sealcoat products.
• Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
• Conduct daily safety meetings and job hazard assessments.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and customers regarding project schedules and job progress.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, production logs, equipment inspections, and time records.
• Inspect and maintain equipment, reporting maintenance needs promptly.
• Train and mentor crew members on proper sealcoating techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
• Ensure proper traffic control measures are in place when required.
• Monitor weather conditions and adjust work schedules accordingly.
• Maintain a clean and organized job site.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of asphalt maintenance or sealcoating experience.
• Previous supervisory or foreman experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred or ability to obtain one.
• Strong understanding of sealcoating materials, crack sealing, and asphalt preservation techniques.
• Ability to read work orders, project plans, and specifications.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
• Basic math skills for measuring materials and estimating quantities.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, dust, and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and hand tools.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and occasional night work as required.
• Outdoor construction and roadway environments.
• Exposure to moving equipment, traffic, loud noise, dust, fumes, and asphalt products.
• Requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and work boots.
