Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintains a positive attitude; creates an atmosphere of friendliness and fun through flexibility and teamwork.
- Generates a friendly atmosphere by encouraging employees to greet and speak to customers; providing prompt, courteous, and efficient service; and setting a good example.
- Sets the department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability.
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.
- Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.
- Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, passing along suggestions/requests, and enhancing the shopping experience.
- Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service, including taking product orders.
- Trains, supervises, disciplines, and evaluates all department employees.
- Determines weekly work schedule and establishes daily work plans.
- Inspects signage and displays, orders products for replenishment.
- Communicates sales and ideas with employees.
- Handles customer issues effectively.
- Figures retail pricing and ensures correct pricing.
- Analyzes sales trends, prepares ad projections, and writes ads.
- Plans displays, promotions, and pre-orders.
- Ensures proper temperature and storage procedures to maintain freshness and control shrinkage.
- Understands and troubleshoots equipment; ensures maintenance.
- Maintains adherence to hygiene and dress guidelines.
- Follows company policies and store guidelines.
- Reports to work as scheduled and on time.
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
- Conducts inventory of the department.
- Ensures competitive pricing.
- Attends meetings and seminars.
- Fills displays, checks deliveries, and works in sales areas.
- Performs departmental duties as needed.
- Assists in other store areas as required.
- Performs other related duties and projects.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
- Ability to perform arithmetic involving fractions, decimals, percentages.
- Ability to compose correspondence, follow manuals, and interact with people.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent, food safety training.
- 3 to 5 years of related work experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Instructs, assigns, reviews, and plans work of others.
- Maintains standards, coordinates activities, allocates personnel.
- Recommends employee transfers, discharges, and salary adjustments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to exert force up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
- Visual requirements include near and far vision, depth, color, and peripheral vision.
- Performs activities like climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions
Exposed to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, hazards, chemicals, and electrical shocks in a fast-paced environment.
Equipment Used
Knives, slicers, steamers, pallet jack, scales, computer, phone, wrapping machine, tenderizers, C.A.R.S. system.
Confidentiality
Access to confidential information such as employee compensation, results, inventory reports, sales, and warehouse pricing.
Financial Responsibility
Responsible for company assets including equipment and merchandise.
Contacts
Daily contact with customers, vendors, the public, and biannual contact with regulatory agencies.
