Job description

Summary The Histology Student Tutor supports DPM students by helping them understand key concepts and course material presented in the classroom. The position is held during the fall semester, with student tutors working up to a maximum of five hours per week and providing individual or small-group academic support to reinforce student learning and comprehension. Applicants must be enrolled in the DPM program and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Essential Functions

Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom, under the instructor’s direction:

  1. 1) Meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class, explain processes and help students solve specific problems.
  2. 2) Designing and facilitating personalized learning goals and activities, and adapting teaching methods to meet students' needs
  3. 3) Supports classroom-centered activities, such as lab studying…
  4. 4) Assisting students with homework (quizzes), literature review, exam preparation and other academic tasks
  5. 5) Facilitating the development of effective study skills, and reviewing and clarifying learning problems
  6. 6) Determine the students' developmental levels and provide commensurate instruction.
  7. 7) Participate in the evaluation and documentation of student progress and attendance.
Qualifications/Requirements

Must have a bachelor’s degree. Must be enrolled in the School of Podiatric Medicine with at least a 3.0 GPA Working knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures, and the ability to use them in varied situations. Ability to make logistical decisions and solve problems. Must have good time and project management skills. Must have basic laptop operating ability. Ability to complete basic paperwork. Must be able to work with students one-on-one or in small groups. Must be able to hold independent tutoring sessions, reinforce lessons, and assist with completion of homework and practice assignments.
