Job summary

Piper Companies is hiring a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) for an Education Technology and Services company located in Chapel Hill, NC. The SDET will work on site in Durham, NC 2 days per week on a 9 month contract, applying coding and QA skills to automate frameworks.

Responsibilities include designing tools, developing test plans, executing API and functional tests, and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of SDET experience with strong coding and software quality skills.
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript.
• Hands‑on experience with Cypress, Playwright, and test automation for web apps and microservices.
• Familiarity with automation frameworks (Modular, Keyword-Driven, Data-Driven, Hybrid).
• Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines and working with DevOps tools.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineers to understand software features, debug code, and automate repetitive tasks.
• Design and implement new tools and frameworks to streamline the quality assurance process.
• Collaborate with teams to understand customer usage models and develop test plans and test cases.
• Plan, create, automate, and execute API, functional, and non-functional test cases.
• Identify, log, and track defects; troubleshoot test failures across sprints.
• Provide transparency to stakeholders by presenting test artifacts and results.
• Perform exploratory and automation testing to ensure high test coverage.
• Produce consistent, high-quality automation code with extensive unit, API, and regression test coverage.
