Job summary

Amazon's MONA team in Seattle is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to own the design and delivery of core network software components end-to-end — from design through production and operation.

You will turn ambiguous requirements into high-quality, well-tested code for controllers, SDN and planning software, while mentoring junior engineers and participating in on-call rotations to maintain reliability at scale.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• 3+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• 3+ years of contributing to new and current systems architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience

Responsibilities

• Own the design, implementation, and operation of well-scoped components and features of our in-house network software — controllers, SDN, planning software, and out-of-band systems — end-to-end.
• Turn ambiguous requirements into high-quality, well-tested, scalable code; contribute to design docs and design reviews.
• Operate your services in production and uphold high operational standards, improving monitoring and alarming as you go.
• Drive correctness and safety for automation that acts on production networks: idempotency, guardrails, and observability that proves work actually happened.
• Collaborate with your team and partner teams to evolve the product and continuously improve code, processes, and quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team through thoughtful code reviews.
• Participate in the on-call rotation for the services you own.
