Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to help build high-performance forwarding and encapsulation services for EC2 Networking.

You will work on low-level systems software in C/C++ to power millions of packets per second on embedded cores, collaborating with hardware and software teams across EC2 and AWS. You will contribute to architecture decisions, participate in code reviews, and mentor junior engineers while delivering scalable dataplane features for AWS

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
• 1+ years of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience.
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-performance forwarding and encapsulation services in C and C++, optimizing data structures and tuning code for embedded CPU cores processing millions of packets per second.
• Collaborate with hardware and software engineers across EC2 Networking to translate hardware specifications into performant dataplane code, ensuring scalability and reliability for AWS customers.
• Participate in architecture decisions, design reviews, and code reviews, providing meaningful feedback to teammates and mentoring junior engineers on best practices for low-level systems development.
