Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Scrum Master / Sr. Software Developer to support a leading federal technology and defense contractor delivering mission-critical software and modernization solutions for government agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience or Master's plus 6 years; degree equivalence accepted.
• 5+ years designing, developing, testing, and reviewing production Java applications.
• 2+ years as Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile team in a large-scale environment.
• Strong Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security experience.
• Design and implement microservices and RESTful APIs; JSON/XML.
• Frontend skills: React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS.
• Experience with unit testing frameworks (JUnit/Mockito).
• Extensive Linux and Git experience; CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Development tools: IntelliJ, Eclipse, VS Code.
• Knowledge of FedRAMP, FISMA, public trust; ability to obtain clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, deploy, and maintain production Java applications and cloud-native microservices.
• Contribute to architecture, technical design, code reviews, and automated testing.
• Support integration with legacy air traffic systems and new platform components.
• Troubleshoot development, testing, and production issues.
• Utilize CI/CD, DevSecOps, and AI-assisted development tools.
• Mentor junior engineers and maintain code quality standards.
• Lead SAFe Agile ceremonies, including PI planning, sprint planning, backlog refinement, system demos, and inspect-and-adapt workshops.
• Remove impediments and drive continuous improvement.
• Track velocity, flow metrics, sprint progress, and PI objectives.
• Coordinate with Release Train Engineers, Product Owners, management, and stakeholders.
• Manage cross-team/ART dependencies, risks, and blockers; drive predictable sprint execution.

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Scrum Master / Sr. Software Developer to support a leading federal technology and defense contractor delivering mission-critical software and modernization solutions for government agencies.. This a HYBRID position, candidates must be located within a 1 hour drive from Gaithersburg, MD; Eagan, MN; or Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

TheScrum Master / Sr. Software Developerwill split responsibilities between hands-on Java software development and SAFe Agile leadership, supporting the modernization of mission-critical air traffic management systems through cloud-native applications and Agile software delivery.

Responsibilities of the Scrum Master / Sr. Software Developer:

Software Development — 50%

• Design, develop, test, debug, deploy, and maintain production Java applications and cloud-native microservices.
• Contribute to architecture, technical design, code reviews, and automated testing.
• Support integration with legacy air traffic systems and new platform components.

• Experience/Education: Bachelor's + 8 years relevant experience OR Master's + 6 years; equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.
• Java: 5+ years designing, developing, testing, and reviewing production applications.
• Scrum Master: 2+ years serving as Scrum Master on a SAFe Agile team within a large-scale software development environment.
• Spring: Significant hands-on Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Spring Security experience.
• Microservices/APIs: Design and implementation of microservices and RESTful APIs; JSON, XML, XSD.
• Frontend: React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS.
• Testing: JUnit, Mockito, or equivalent unit testing frameworks.
• Linux & Git: Significant experience with both.
• DevOps: CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Development Tools: IntelliJ, Eclipse, VS Code, or equivalent IDEs.
• Software Engineering: Strong development principles, best practices, and technical/nontechnical communication.
• Eligible for Public Trust clearance*
• Desired/Nice-to-Have:
  • Certifications: SAFe SSM, SASM, CSM, PSM.
  • Cloud: Hybrid cloud, data mesh, cloud-native services.
  • Containers: Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Messaging: Kafka, event-driven architecture.
  • Additional Technologies: Python, Ansible, YAML, Linux shell scripting, MongoDB/NoSQL.
  • AI Development: Claude Code, Codex, or comparable AI-assisted coding tools.
  • Government/Security: FedRAMP, FISMA, large government programs.
  • Domain: Safety-critical systems, air traffic control/management, flight services.

Compensation for the Scrum Master / Sr. Software Developer:

• Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 *depending on experience*
