Job summary

Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician to assist with basic nursing care and set up for operative procedures under the supervision of the staff nurse. Responsibilities include preparing sterile field, passing instruments, maintaining correct counts, and supporting the sterile team during all procedures; must complete yearly competencies and stay HIPAA compliant.

Shift is 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification or equivalent.
• Ability to complete Basic Life Support certification.
• Strong teamwork and communication in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Assists with basic nursing care and preparation of surgical patients under the supervision of the staff nurse.
• Prepares sterile field and passes instruments during procedures.
• Maintains correct instrument counts and assists the sterile team.
• Demonstrates ability to stay calm and productive in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Assists in identifying patient needs based on age specific data. Selects appropriate instruments and supplies and sets up tables as required for specific operations. Prepares and maintains the sterile field for all surgical procedures. Prepares and passes instruments, sponges, and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintains a correct count. Functions as a member of the sterile team. Performs other duties as assigned.ScheduleGenerally Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pmCall hours requiredPerformance Standards1. Provides team support services and demonstrates technical functions in a cost-effective, skillful manner that results in team, physician and patient satisfaction.2. Completes and maintains all yearly competency monitors and mandatory training within defined time frame (i.e., safety, annua in-services, corporate compliance, confidentiality, HIPAA).3.
